When the Las Vegas Monorail wanted to modernize its fare system, Innovative Transit Solutions used Couchbase to implement a new solution that not only provides more convenient ways for riders to purchase and use digital tickets, but also cuts the high cost of maintaining traditional mag-stripe ticket systems. Couchbase also allows the monorail to put database instances at the edge of the network – in the stations and at the gates – and then operate in offline mode if cloud connectivity becomes unavailable. In a pilot project for the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, the new system boosted ridership by 30% and increased revenue by 50%.
