Couchbase Chooses Simba Technologies® to Deliver ODBC and JDBC Connectivity

Simba Technologies to Build ODBC 3.8, JDBC Drivers for the World’s Leading High-performance, Distributed Database

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA AND MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA – October 6, 2014 – Today Simba Technologies Inc.®, the worldwide leader in standards-based connectivity solutions for relational and multi-dimensional data, and Couchbase, Inc., provider of the most complete NoSQL database, announced a joint partnership to deliver ODBC and JDBC connectivity for Couchbase Server. Under terms of the agreement, Couchbase selected Simba Technologies to build ODBC 3.8 and JDBC 4.0 connectivity drivers for the Couchbase NoSQL database.

“Simba’s ODBC and JDBC drivers will bring a new level of fast, seamless connectivity to Couchbase Server,” said Rod Hamlin, Vice President of Global Business Development. “This integration will make it easier for data analysts—whether they’re using Tableau, Excel, QlikView, SAP Lumira, or any other BI app—to quickly access data in Couchbase Server.”

The Couchbase-Simba Technologies partnership highlights the growing importance of connectivity in the NoSQL world: Couchbase customers will be able to access their NoSQL data—and more importantly, analyze, report, and act upon it—from their business intelligence tools of choice. Simba’s ODBC and JDBC connectors allow users to make quick analytic insights and to leverage back-end data-source high-performance calculation capabilities. The Simba SQL-92 engine supports aggregations, joins, scalar functions, sub-queries, and limits DDL. Additionally, it will support N1QL, Couchbase’s SQL-like query language currently in developer preview.

“Couchbase is an innovator in the NoSQL and document database space,” says Simba Technologies CEO Amyn Rajan. “And now Couchbase customers can take advantage of the best connectivity, whether they’re using ODBC or JDBC.”

“The Simba ODBC driver for Couchbase will provide full support for the latest ODBC 3.8 connectivity standard—a standard that Simba originally co-developed with Microsoft,” notes Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. “For Couchbase, that will represent better interoperability with any and all application platforms.”
