Caroline Kerns at CouchbaseStarting a new job is always a little bit nerve wracking. Will I fit in? Will my coworkers like me? What is the culture like? I don’t think this feeling ever goes away no matter if you are new in your career or a seasoned professional.

Instead of focusing on the endless questions and what-ifs that often accompany changing circumstances, I chose to focus on the positive experiences and let me tell you: I have had massive positive experiences!

Today, I would like to highlight 5 cool things I learned during my first month at Couchbase as a Developer Community Manager, and why I am so excited about working for this company.

1. We do cool things

We do some seriously cool things! Not only are we involved with various exciting industries, such as gaming, healthcare, energy, entertainment, and retail, but we also have some great services and functionalities.

Perhaps our best known offering is Couchbase Capella (database as a service), but did you know we recently announced vector search capabilities? This is a truly exciting announcement not just for us internally, but also for all of our customers. Specifically, I want to highlight that we are the first vendor to put vector search into a mobile database!

We also continue working with our customers and community alike to build the best products and provide the best services we can.

2. We strive to help you learn better

When I first joined Couchbase I realized I had a lot to learn (and still do, to be honest). I wasn’t sure where to get started but was pointed to a great resource I had overlooked previously: Couchbase Academy

Not only do we have courses for various levels (beginner to advanced), but we also offer Couchbase Certifications which you can display via Credly! Not only do we offer Associate Developer Certifications (with specifications for your expertise (i.e., Java, .NET, Node.JS, etc.) but also  Professional Administrator and Professional Architect certifications.

In my opinion, the best thing is that our beginner courses are free to take! Currently, I am taking CB131 – Couchbase Associate Architect with Capella to learn about the full power of Couchbase and ensure that I understand the fundamentals of the Couchbase NoSQL database and essential functionalities.

Having an in-house built, and continuously improved, resource that helps you learn and understand Couchbase has been incredibly valuable to me and I hope some of you will try it out as well.

3. We thoroughly enjoy events

Events, especially in-person events seem to be making a big comeback this year—we have already attended a number of events and are planning on attending many more!

For in–person events, you can find us at AWS Summits, Couchbase meetups and more – just keep your eyes peeled as we will shout it from the rooftops (figuratively) if we are out and about. Also, make sure to follow us on LinkedIn to find out where we will be next.

We also understand that in-person events aren’t always feasible for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and we want to accommodate that—you can find us host (and attend) virtual events throughout the year as well.

Check out our Coding With AI Vector Search and RAG webcast coming up in April—it’s going to be a fun one! For more upcoming events, you can always check out our Events and Webcasts page

Perhaps live events aren’t your thing (or your schedule is as hectic as can be!), fear not—we also have many on-demand videos for you. Our Videos and Presentations resource has a variety of videos which you can sort by Industry, Use Case, Key Feature and more. Take a look here and let me know if you watch any of them.

4. We love Community

We are very big on Community—which is perfect for me as I am a Community Manager not just by trade but also by passion.

I enjoy few things more than bringing people together and enabling them to learn from each other and grow together.

Couchbase is doing a fantastic job of continuing to bring people together, whether through meetups, as mentioned above, or our always-growing Couchbase Community Hub—where our community comes together.

The Community Hub is where you will get fresh updates on everything Couchbase and easily connect with other members and learn about more ways to get involved in the community.

If the forum is not your thing, come join us on Discord. We are still fine-tuning our community and would love more members to join us, provide feedback and be among the first to find out when we have new releases, updates and opportunities exclusive to community members.

And if you have technical questions, we have you covered as well! Check out our Couchbase Forum where you can ask questions based on categories and different tags. We strive to respond to questions quickly so you can get back to what you do best quickly and continue building with Couchbase.

Whether you are just starting out with your Couchbase journey like myself or consider yourself an expert, we hope you will join our community and learn, improve and experience new services with us!

5. We have a very special group of Couchbase experts: Ambassadors

As I mentioned above, we love our community. So much so that we are inviting our most prolific community members and subject matter experts to join our exclusive list of Couchbase Ambassadors.

Our Couchbase Ambassadors are a diverse group of Couchbase enthusiasts who are just as thrilled about what we do as we are.

Just like with everything we do, we are constantly evolving and making our services, products, and even our community programs better. We are excited to have our Ambassadors join us for exclusive opportunities including learning about releases ahead of time (under NDA of course) and offer exclusive workshops and sessions—and of course some swag.

If I piqued your interest, come check out our program announcement and see if this is something you are interested in. We would love to have you apply, and maybe even join, this exclusive group of professionals.

Outro

A long story short—there is a lot to love about Couchbase. I believe a company’s culture is just as (if not even a bit more) important as their technical mission.

If you haven’t already, check out Couchbase’s Values—everything I have seen so far has been driven by these values and it is quite refreshing to see (while most companies have values, not every company follows their values).

I am excited for my time here at Couchbase and am looking forward to connecting with more of you as you join our ever growing community or perhaps join our team? We are hiring!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me via LinkedIn, I am happy to answer any questions and help you join our community.
