Teorema CAP y Caos en la Conferencia CodeMash – Enero de 2017 (Videos)

I was again honored to be selected as a speaker at the great CodeMash conference in Ohio.

I took part in three speaking events:

Are You Ready for Chaos? Horizontal Scaling in a Briefcase

This session was partly a demonstration of the CouchCase project that I worked on in the summer, but also a demonstration of the CAP Theorum and Couchbase in action. The CouchCase did not cooperate, but I had a backup plan of using Docker which went okay. I give a very high-level overview in the video, but for more detail on Couchbase’s architecture, check out the Couchbase Developer Portal.

Have Your Best Season Yet: Becoming a (Microsoft) MVP

I was asked by Microsoft’s Lisa Anderson to be on a panel of Microsoft MVPs to answer questions about the Microsoft MVP program. I didn’t talk about Couchbase or technology very much, and I don’t have a video for you. But, if you are a Microsoft developer who is helping to build a developer community, you should definitely look into the MVP program.

Lego Bucket Races

This was my first time presenting at the “KidzMash” event for children that runs in parallel to CodeMash. I asked the kids to put different colored blocks into different buckets according to rules as fast as they can. The idea was to demonstrate how a database works, how an indexed database works, and how performance testing works.

I really had no idea what to expect, as I’ve never presented anything technical to kids before. There was a wide array of age differences, so the races didn’t always go to plan. I won’t embed the video here, since most of it is kids yelling. Think of it as an “explain it to me like I’m five” explanation on database indexing.

CodeMash is my favorite conference. I always have a great time and learn a lot. I highly recommend that you check it out!
