When I use the command in /opt/couchbase/bin, I can see the command on the list (cbimport) but I get: commandnotfound and an invitation to use c2bimport which I downloaded with c2bib but that seems to be in /usr/bin/ but does respond either.
Any idea ?

I guess this is your OS suggesting something based on its database of packages and the command you entered.
What exactly is your text at the shell command prompt when you get this? And is /opt/couchbase/bin in your PATH ? (Or are you specifying the full path to cbimport ?)
PATH has to be changed indeed:
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/couchbase/bin/
