I can’t believe I have to ask this, but: how do you upgrade Capella App Services to a new version?
I want to upgrade Couchbase Server to 8.x and App Services (Sync Gateway) to 4.x, but I cannot find anywhere to do this in the Capella web UI. The release notes tell me to “contact support” but, hilariously, I’m forbidden from filing a support ticket because we pay only ~$500/mo.
I’m a bit frustrated. I’ve come to Couchbase from MongoDB where upgrading was a dead-simple, one-click operation. It feels like this is needlessly difficult.
What magic incantation must I perform to have the upgrades applied?
Ah, I discovered that if I select “none of the above” as the first option in the “file a support ticket” flow (as opposed to selecting the cluster in question), I can actually submit a ticket. I’ve done that now.
This seems really frustrating, especially when the UI doesn’t make it clear.
Hopefully someone from Couchbase can explain the process or offer an easy way to upgrade.
Thanks for raising this and apologies for the frustration you experienced. You’re absolutely right that the user experience wasn’t clear.
To clarify, Capella does support self-service upgrades, and we’re continuously working to make each new Server and App Services version available for self-service upgrade as quickly as possible. When a version isn’t yet available for self-service across all clusters, an upgrade does require a support request. That said, the current support ticket flow didn’t make this path obvious, and that’s on us.
We’re actively working to improve this by making upgrade requests clearer and easier to submit in the support UI. Thanks again for calling this out. Your feedback is directly helping us improve the Capella experience.
