{"id":14664,"date":"2023-08-01T13:20:51","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T20:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/?p=14664"},"modified":"2023-08-11T14:49:31","modified_gmt":"2023-08-11T21:49:31","slug":"withdrawal-service-broker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/withdrawal-service-broker\/","title":{"rendered":"Withdrawal of the Couchbase Service Broker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Couchbase will be formally withdrawing the <\/b><b><i>Couchbase Service Broker<\/i><\/b><b>, as a supported product, from 1st November 2023.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is a Service Broker?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Service Brokers implement the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openservicebrokerapi.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Service Broker API<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an open standard for interoperability between clients and service brokers within the Kubernetes ecosystem. Service brokers are an abstraction layer around a service that allow users to create instances of a service and bind applications to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why are we withdrawing the Couchbase Service Broker?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Service Broker<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was introduced, we have not seen the expected uptake of the Open Service Broker API, and in fact many related projects have also been withdrawn or End-of-Life&#8217;d, including support being removed from Red Hat&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Openshift Container Platform<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does withdrawing mean?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this case, we will be removing the Service Broker from our Downloads page and removing the associated container images from any repositories, archiving the documentation, and will no longer be accepting support requests at the end of the notice period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What about the source code?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will be archiving the GitHub repository (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/couchbase\/service-broker\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">service-broker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), marking it read-only.\u00a0 Any interested party is of course welcome to fork it if they wish to keep on using it subject to its licence terms, on the understanding there is no official support from Couchbase, and that the code is provided completely as is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What if I have any additional questions?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enterprise Customers should contact us either via their Account Team or by opening a ticket in our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.couchbase.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support Portal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community Users can get in touch with us via our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/discord.gg\/hFF3tUyhD3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discord<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/forums\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Couchbase Forums<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Couchbase will be formally withdrawing the Couchbase Service Broker, as a supported product, from 1st November 2023.
