So today, I\u2019m excited to announce a new program called \u201c<\/span><span>Couchbase Developer Builds<\/span><span>\u201d. The goal of the program is to keep you updated on the exciting features we are building, and to get your feedback. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>So, what is a Couchbase Developer Build? <\/span><span>If you\u2019re a developer and want to try out the leading-edge bits from Couchbase, developer builds are for you in your developer environment. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>Essentially, these are builds are directly from the main code line of our next major release, with light-weight quality tests run on top of it. This means that you might run into some rough edges and bugs while you try out these builds. \u00a0The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/forums\/\"><span>forums<\/span><\/a><span> will provide access to the Couchbase user community to help troubleshoot issues, get questions answered and collect your feedback. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>Here are a few important things to know about our Developer Builds: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>These binaries are pre-release and are intended for experimental purposes only. They should NOT be used for staging or production environments. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>The new features that you experience in developer builds are still under development, which means they could change significantly before the final release of the product.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>You\u2019ll need a fresh install of Couchbase Server to use these builds.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>Please provide us with your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/forums\/\"><span>feedback<\/span><\/a><span>!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>What\u2019s the cadence of these builds? \u00a0<\/span><span>We are shooting for a monthly cadence starting this month. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>What\u2019s exciting in the January Developer Build? <\/span><span>With every developer build, we hope to showcase some exciting features that we have built, and need your feedback.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>Here are some key features for the January Developer Build:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>The New Spock UI <\/span><span>&#8211; This re-design of the Couchbase Web console offers<\/span><span> better usability, increased power and flexibility. <\/span><span>You\u2019ll get a new look and feel, improved navigation, and enhancements to query workbench. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>Subqueries over nested collections <\/span><span>&#8211; So far, subqueries over nested collections in a document required retrieving the same document again. With this improvement, complex N1QL operations can be performed on the nested collection on the same document without additional document fetch. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>For example : <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br class=\"kix-line-break\"><br>\n<span><span>SELECT id, (SELECT RAW SUM(ol.price) FROM orders.orderlines ol)[0] AS total FROM orders;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>SELECT custId, id, (SELECT ol.* FROM orders.orderlines ol ORDER BY ol.price DESC) orderlines FROM orders;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>SELECT custId, id, (SELECT ol.* FROM orders.orderlines ol WHERE ol.productId IN [&#8220;lunch&#8221;, &#8220;drink&#8221;] ORDER BY ol.price) orderlines FROM orders;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>CURL function for N1QL &#8211; \u00a0<\/span><span>This newly added N1QL function will provide a conservative set of curl functionality built into the N1QL language. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>For example : <\/span><br class=\"kix-line-break\"><br>\n<br class=\"kix-line-break\"><br>\n<span>Select curl (&#8220;POST&#8221;, &#8220;https:\/\/localhost:8093\/query\/service&#8221;, {&#8220;data&#8221; : &#8220;statement=select * \u00a0from system:keyspaces&#8221;});<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>CBQ Quiet &#8211; <\/span><span>This N1QL client (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.couchbase.com\/documentation\/server\/current\/cli\/cbq-tool.html\"><span>CBQ<\/span><\/a><span>) improvement provides a cbq option (-q) to disable echoing of queries in the input source file (-f option).\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p> <span><span><span><span>1. .\/cbq -q<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>2. SET quiet true;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span><span>FTS updates &#8211; <\/span><span>If you haven\u2019t got a chance to play around with<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.couchbase.com\/documentation\/server\/4.5\/sdk\/full-text-search-overview.html\"><span> Full-Text Search<\/span><\/a><span> (FTS) in Couchbase, you should give it a try on the developer builds. With the developer build, we\u2019ve fixed a number of bug for FTS. You might also want to play around with FTS using our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.couchbase.com\/documentation\/server\/4.5\/sdk\/python\/full-text-searching-with-sdk.html\"><span>SDKs<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><span>Keep an eye out for upcoming blogs that will touch upon each of these features in more detail. <\/span><\/span><br>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span>OK!
