{"id":300,"date":"2015-04-13T14:06:55","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T14:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/hosting-couchbase-server-in-windows-azure-part-2\/"},"modified":"2015-04-13T14:06:55","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T14:06:54","slug":"hosting-couchbase-server-in-windows-azure-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/ko\/hosting-couchbase-server-in-windows-azure-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hosting Couchbase Server in Windows Azure (Part 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following up from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/ko\/hosting-couchbase-server-in-windows-azure-part-1\/\">first blog post<\/a>, let\u2019s continue with Endpoint configuration and some .NET code to test the connection to the Couchbase node.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Endpoint Configuration, what is that exactly?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By default, Azure blocks most external connections to the Virtual Machine (VM). The default exceptions are PowerShell (port: 5986) and Remote Desktop (port: 59548).<br>\nConnection attempts to other ports are blocked by Azure Endpoint Protection, unless they are added to Endpoint Protection as a \u201cpass through\u201d. You can think of Endpoint protection as a \u201cCloud Firewall\u201d or perhaps port forwarding in a DMZ Zone.<br>\nRegardless, all ports used by the Couchbase Client need to be added to the Endpoint protection to allow the the client and node to communicate.<br>\nThe complete port list for Couchbase Server\/Client can be found here:<br>\n<em>Please note the Client\/server (\u201cyes\/no\u201d) header<\/em>.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.couchbase.com\/admin\/admin\/Install\/install-networkPorts.html\">https:\/\/docs.couchbase.com\/admin\/admin\/Install\/install-networkPorts.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No need to open more ports then the client is using\/needs.<br>\nIn this sample\/demo we will not use SSL and therefore there is no need to open port 11207 as this is only used for SSL etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The ports that we need to add to Endpoint Protection for the .NET Client to connect to the node are<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8091 &#8211; Web Admin<br>\n8092 &#8211; API<br>\n11210 &#8211; Bucket (no SSL)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Note: If you are planning to use N1QL (SQL for Documents) you also need to add port 8093!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Endpoint Configuration, adding the ports<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/manage.windowsazure.com\">https:\/\/manage.windowsazure.com\u00a0<\/a><br>\nand navigate to the Virtual Machine created in \u201cpart 1\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/05\/AzureEndpoint.png\" width=\"900\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hit the \u201cAdd\u201d button and follow the on screen guide to add the 3 ports to the Endpoint Configuration.<br>\nIn the current Azure Portal can only add a single port at a time, this is a bit time consuming and will hopefully change in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admin Console<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the Endpoint Configuration we added port 8091, the Couchbase Server Console.<br>\nNavigate to:<br>\nhttps:\/\/{your-cb-server-node-dns-name}.cloudapp.net:8091<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should now see the Couchbase Console login page. If you get a \u201ctimeout\u201d or \u201cunknown page\u201d error, then please check that the Couchbase Server is running and port 8091 has been successfully added to the Endpoint Configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assuming that everything went as planned and the browser showed the Couchbase Console Login page, let\u2019s continue to build a .NET Client to connect to the Node.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The .NET SDK &#8211; Building a test Client with .NET<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Official .NET SDK for Couchbase is open source and can be downloaded, edited, changed etc. from Github, https:\/\/github.com\/couchbase\/couchbase-net-client<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For convenience the SDK is also avaliable on Nuget, https:\/\/www.nuget.org\/packages\/CouchbaseNetClient\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the SDK easy at hand, the only step missing is coding a small test project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Visual Studio and create a new Console app.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right click the Solution in Solution Explorer and click Manage Nuget Packages for this Solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/05\/Screen20Shot202015-03-3020at2014.33.33.png\" width=\"900\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Search for \u201cCouchbase SDK\u201d and install the package as shown on the picture below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/05\/Screen20Shot202015-03-3020at2014.34.19.png\" width=\"900\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on network speed, the package download + dependencies can take some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/05\/Screen20Shot202015-03-3020at2014.34.35.png\" width=\"900\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Couchbase SDK uses \u201cSystem.Configuration\u201d as part of the configuration and setting up the connection uris in code. Therefore you will need to add a ref. to this DLL as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/05\/Screen20Shot202015-03-3020at2014.51.49.png\" width=\"900\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we are ready to do some actual C# code and connect to our one node Couchbase Cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connecting to the Cluster with the Couchbase .NET SDK!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open program.cs and replace the existing code with the code below (all code lines):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note that you need to update the Server Configuration to point to your own Couchbase Cluster, but with that change done we are ready to run the code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Main method is the entry point and the first piece of user code run in the cmd app.<br>\nIt starts by initializing ClusterHelper, as Singleton with &#8220;multi-tons&#8221; Bucket references.
