Horizontal Scaling in a Briefcase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This session was partly a demonstration of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/summer-project-2016-the-couchcase\/\">CouchCase project<\/a> that I worked on in the summer, but also a demonstration of the CAP Theorum and Couchbase in action. The CouchCase did not cooperate, but I had a backup plan of using Docker which went okay. I give a very high-level overview in the video, but for <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.couchbase.com\/documentation\/server\/4.5\/architecture\/high-availability-replication-architecture.html?utm_source=blogs&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=blogs\">more detail on Couchbase\u2019s architecture, check out the Couchbase Developer Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hCLTjZYgXR4&amp;w=560&amp;h=315]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have Your Best Season Yet: Becoming a (Microsoft) MVP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was asked by Microsoft\u2019s Lisa Anderson to be on a panel of Microsoft MVPs to answer questions about the Microsoft MVP program. I didn\u2019t talk about Couchbase or technology very much, and I don\u2019t have a video for you. But, if you are a Microsoft developer who is helping to build a developer community, you should definitely <a href=\"https:\/\/mvp.microsoft.com\/en-us\/Nomination\/nominate-an-mvp\">look into the MVP program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lego Bucket Races<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was my first time presenting at the &#8220;KidzMash&#8221; event for children that runs in parallel to CodeMash. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NEg0uRfbDwo\">I asked the kids to put different colored blocks into different buckets<\/a> according to rules as fast as they can. The idea was to demonstrate how a database works, how an indexed database works, and how performance testing works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I really had no idea what to expect, as I\u2019ve never presented anything technical to kids before. There was a wide array of age differences, so the races didn\u2019t always go to plan. I won\u2019t embed the video here, since most of it is kids yelling. Think of it as an &#8220;explain it to me like I\u2019m five&#8221; explanation on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.couchbase.com\/blog\/database-indexing-best-practices\/\">database indexing<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CodeMash is my favorite conference. I always have a great time and learn a lot.
