Couchbase Announces Beta Version of Couchbase Lite for .NET

Xamarin and Couchbase Joint Development Effort Brings Natively Written C# Mobile JSON Database to Mobile App Developers Writing for All Mobile Platforms

Mountain View, Calif. – May 21, 2014 – Couchbase, Inc., provider of the most complete NoSQL database, today announced the beta release of Couchbase Lite for .NET, jointly developed with Xamarin.  Couchbase Lite is the world’s first and only full featured, flexible, mobile JSON database that runs locally on the device and is built from the ground up for mobile devices. In addition to the beta release of Couchbase Lite for .NET, Couchbase also announced (LINK) general availability of Couchbase mobile, which includes native versions of Couchbase Lite for iOS, Android and Java.

“Our goal is to enable developers to build the next generation of mobile applications,” said Rahim Yaseen, SVP Products and Engineering, Couchbase.  “Xamarin has a community of more than 600,000 developers building native mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows in C#.  Building a native .NET version of Couchbase Lite gives that community a faster, easier way to handle mobile data synchronization, eliminating one of the biggest challenges to building always-available, always-responsive applications.”

The beta release of Couchbase Lite for .NET is a joint development effort between Couchbase and Xamarin. Xamarin and Couchbase will continue joint development through the beta and expect to make the product generally available in the fall of 2014.  In addition, Xamarin and Couchbase are collaborating to make the code portable to run on iOS and Android via Xamarin as well as on popular Microsoft mobile, tablet, and desktop platforms.

“Xamarin’s mission is to make it fast, easy and fun to build great mobile apps,” said Miguel de Icaza, co-founder and CTO, Xamarin.  “Trying to write code to manage remote data synchronization is not fun.  Couchbase Mobile products, and specifically Couchbase Lite for .NET, give our developer community a platform to write more robust, responsive and available applications in a fraction of the time it used to take.  We are thrilled to be providing the beta version of Couchbase Lite for .NET to our developer community.”

The beta version of Couchbase Lite for .NET is available here.
