Why Couchbase can't use RAM from disk cache?

On my server i have 24GB of RAM. 8GB used for Couchbase and 16GB for disk cache. As said in linux manual, disk cache can be droped when some application need RAM. But under high load Couchbase node just goes down, and when i try to make backup it's working very slow because can't get enough of RAM.

Which release of Couchbase Server are you running? There had been some memory accounting issues, and maybe the release you have is one of the affected ones. The problem is most often seen when you have small value/document sizes. How big are your items?
