where to start , to understand the code base?

I am very interested in membase code and would like to contribute.
but taking a look at the code, I'm really perplexed. I got a general understanding of the architecture from the wiki, and the video http://nosql.mypopescu.com/post/1083066357/membase-history-and-internals
is there some high-level walk through of the code layout to help understanding it? also the erlang code is a big learning curve
Thanks a lot
