Not sure if this issue can even be fixed without me blowing away the environment which I would rather not due.

Had an issue where CouchBase failed to install on a machine. It could not be installed, and what was left could not be uninstalled either. An attempt was made to manually clean everything up, with no success. I am attempting to install the 1.8.1 enterprise version on this machine now and get the following error. I believe that originally an attempt was made to install 2.0 community preview.

Installer needs to update registry value in order to upgrade from the previous version. Please run installer again to continue.

Not sure what I need to do. Running the installer again gives the same error.

Hi,
Try using revo uninstaller, it might help you in uninstalling the couchbase 2.0. then try installing

or else try to delete the information of the couchbase files/folders and registry keys manually. then try. Also make sure the couchbase is not running as a service.

If still this wont help. Please provide informations like windows version, Complete error informations like codes, error etc...

Thanks,
Neo

No luck with Revo, cleaned up everything manually, there is no CouchBase files or folders left on this machine, or registry keys that have a reference to CouchBase

Running windows server 2008 R8 Standard.

The only error I get is the following

"Installer needs to update registry value in order to upgrade from the previous version. Please run installer again to continue"

If i try to run the process silently it fails with an error code of 3

Hi,
Sorry for a delayed response, We can also try to install membase 1.7.2 then try to do a offline upgrade to the couchbase 1.8 version, this might help. But i am not very sure, if the problem with the windows installer or the issue with the registry "unable to find the path" for the new installation. So please try and let us know. In case i got any update will let you know.

This link will help you "http://www.couchbase.com/docs/couchbase-manual-1.8/couchbase-getting-started-upgrade.html"

Thanks,
Neo-matrix

I've had the pleasure of encountering this issue today.

The installer, both 2.0 enterprise and community, gives the following message and quits:

Installer needs to update registry value in order to upgrade from previous version.

Please run installer again to continue.

Must admit I found it funny the first few times, the installer throwing an error telling me to run the installer again...

It may have started after many failed installation attempts due to some microsoft redistributables. I doubt it's been installed before, as the registry contains no mention of Couchbase besides MRU file lists.

I've tried just about all I can think of and having it running for the holidays would be swell.

Any ideas?

Lastly, cheers for what truly is a great storage solution. I've been quite amazed at the increase I've been seeing in developer productivity, the added performance is just a plus(albeit a large one).

I finally had time to look into the issue and got the installer running after a bit of messing about with ProcMon.

What got it running was deleting the UpgradeCode left behind by an old or possibly failed install. The keyname will most likely vary depending on which version it was, so this might not be the right key name for you (if it aren't you can find it using ProcMon, the process name is 'msiexec.exe', even if it might take a bit of tech savvyness).

The below .reg file was what made the installer run for me, alternatively you can delete the keys manually:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\1456F12DAE7ED0B42BB0D4BDFA6588B2]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\CE2FC473EBF11FB488B05BA86825B28C]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\Installer\Products\1456F12DAE7ED0B42BB0D4BDFA6588B2]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\Installer\Products\CE2FC473EBF11FB488B05BA86825B28C]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes\DAFE44492BF730D45B002C1133EA9A42]
