membase over wan for DR site
Thu, 01/27/2011 - 03:43
Hi,
We have a second datacenter that we use as a DR site. It is basically dark except in the event of a failover. I read in the wiki that running membase over a WAN link is not recommended, so how would one go about setting up a copy of our membase servers in the DR site?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris, happy to help here if I can. You're correct that there is no "official" support for replicating Membase data over a WAN. However, one of our largest customers is doing just that and the Membase infrastructure will handle it if the WAN link will.
You will basically need to create a separate layer to take the TAP stream from the servers of one Membase cluster and send it over to the other cluster. In the current implementation, a TAP stream is basically "all or nothing" so if the connection is lost, you'll have to rematerialize the entire data set. With the next release, we plan on implementing timestamps which will allow for resuming a TAP stream
If you're going to go down this route, I would highly recommend obtaining an Entperrise license subscription as it will allow us to best support/help your efforts.
Thanks Chris, let me know how else I can help.
