Does anyone know if you can bind Membase to a particular network interface?  I have two interfaces in my particular environment-- one of which is public facing, the other is for the internal network.  Membase has chosen the public interface IP to identify itself over the private-- which is going to make things much more difficult from a security/firewall standpoint.

So with that-- how do you mind Membase to a particular network interface?

My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere-- I haven't found anything.  Thanks.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, you should be able to use the instructions at the bottom of this page: http://wiki.membase.org/display/membase/Using+Membase+in+the+Cloud.  Instead of a hostname, you can also use an IP address.

Hi Perry,

I've followed these instructions, and everything starts correctly, but i still CAN connect to both (membase & memcached) buckets from on external network interface.

Here is the end of "/opt/membase/1.6.0.1/bin/membase" file

    -ns_server ns_server_config \"/etc/opt/membase/1.6.0.1/config\" \
    -ns_server pidfile \"/var/run/membase-server.pid\" \
    -name ns_1@192.168.1.101

Could you please help me with this?

Thanks.

vadim,

Unfortunately, at this time we don't have the option to bind membase server to a specific interface.

Thanks

Bhawana

Is this being worked on? Is there an open issue for that?

Id really hate to rely soley on firewall rules to make sure nobody is accessing my data.

Product management is aware of the request, but it's not very high on the priority list at the moment.

In general, Membase and memcached are not designed to be exposed to the world and there is usually at least one level of corporate firewall in place to add security.

I'll make sure your request gets to the right people, let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.
