I tried installing membase on my development machine win7 and it works great.

I tried installation on EC2 Amazon Window 2003 small instance server (local store) -
Installation was successful, but the service just does not start.

Tried re-installing but it just does not work..

Is there something that needs to be done - if so please point me to write source.

Also funny enough I see nothing about this startup error in Event Viewer - how do I get the logs.

workaround is to install vc 2005 redistributable (8.0.59193) on the system.

the easiest way to obtain this dll and package is by downloading and installing the latest erlang from http://www.erlang.org/

Thanks thate work around helped getting the service started on EC2 Windows 2003 servers ..

One more question - I m trying to setup a cluster - I have 3 amz instances running - but when I try to add the second server to cluster it says...

Attention - Failed to reach erlang port mapper. Timeout connecting to "xx.xx.xx.xxx" on port "4369". This could be due to an incorrect host/port combination or a firewall in place between the servers.

Question that I have is what set of ports do I have to open to make the whole thing work ...

you would also want to open the firewall port for buckets created on a dedicated port ( 11212,11213)..

it is not necessary however if you use the default bucket or sasl enabled buckets.
