I just tried to install Couchbase server 1.8.0 on my Mac (OSX 10.7.3). Everything seemed to go well. I was setting up the server using the browser-based utility. The installation hung after trying to set up my first bucket. I had setup the admin user pass, the size of the cluster and entered the size and type (Memcache) of the bucket when I saw some connection errors in the browser.

I tried to continue, but nothing worked. I rebooted. Now when I get back to the admin console in the browser, my Admin username and password are not accepted. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Couchbase, but I still can't get past the username/password (Login failed username/password). Is there a way to completely start over? I've uninstalled and re-installed twice now, but I never get back to the initial setup. I always come back in at the admin login.

Thanks!
Blake

I just had a very similar problem on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04). I installed Couchbase Server 1.8.1, configured things and entered my admin user name and password, and browsed the browser utility, which showed all was well, when I got a phone call. Five minutes into the call, the browser screen told me I had been logged out due to inavtivity. But it won't let me log in again; it says "Login Failed".

How can one get past this?

Similarly, the command-line REST API that requires passwords doesn't like my password, i.e.

./couchbase-cli server-list -c localhost:8091 -u dronz -p mypwd

Responds with:

"ERROR: unable to access the REST API - please check your username (-u) and password (-p)"

I have tried a few passwords. My assumption is that it wanted my machine admin username and password, as during configuration, it didn't seem to ask me for any other user name, and it seemed to be asking me for my admin password. Did I misunderstand or miss some step?

What can I do to recover from this and get a working username and password?

Thanks!
