The link below describes a way to increase / descrease the amount of RAM allocated to a membase cluster.

Is this operation an online task. i.e. in a live environment will membase continue to serve data while the tool performs this operation?

Yes, it is an online task. Raising the limit is harmless, lowering it needs to take a bit more thought to ensure you don't lower it below what you already have allocated.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that this particular quota doesn't affect Membase's running memory usage at all. If you're trying to control how much Membase uses (or has available to use) for actual data storage, you'll want to edit the bucket quota. That can be done either via the UI, the CLI or the REST API. While that is also an online operation, lowering it may cause data to be ejected to disk and that comes with all the relevant caveats.

Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Perry!
