How to change memcached slab size
Does anyone know how to change the slab size for a memcached bucket? I'd like to increase the slab size from the default 1MB. Unfortunately switching to a membase bucket is not an option.
I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I inherited an app that does some ridiculous caching with large objects. I'm stuck with this until I have time to reduce the size of the objects and change the patterns the other developers used.
I'd love to use a Membase bucket. However, every Membase 1.6.5.4 bucket we've setup on a 32bit Windows 2003 Server is unstable. The Memcached buckets work great but Membase buckets crash and restart several times throughout the day. I tried upgrading to Membase 1.7 but it won't even install properly on any of our 32bit Windows 2003 Servers.
FWIW, Membase buckets work great on our 64bit Windows 2008 Servers. We're just having issues on our 32bit Windows 2003 Servers.
Well, I'd certainly like to get any of our bugs worked out...if you can spend the time to work with us.
What are the errors you're seeing with installing 1.7 on your severs? And can you use 64-bit Win2k8 (which we officially support)?
Sure, I'd be happy to help. 1.7 installs and runs great on the 64bit Windows 2008 Servers I've tested it on.
The problem I have with the 1.7 install is on our 32bit Windows 2003 Servers. The install appears to work fine until the end. It sends me to the admin console login screen instead of the setup screen. Of course I don't know what the userid and password are so I can't login. There's a similar thread already started covering this here http://www.couchbase.org/forums/thread/install-17-doesnt-work
THanks Peter, can you run C:\Program Files\Membase\Server\bin\mbcollect_info and send over the resulting file?
Thank you
Perry
Just sent it to you.
Peter, we just fixed a few issues with Windows installations. Can you download the 1.7.1.1 version and retry your installation where it isn't working?

Install worked great w/ 1.7.1.1.
Unfortunately this is not an easy change to make within the Membase software. I'll check with our engineers for instructions, but I'd also like to understand both why you can't use a Membase bucket and why you feel the need to have objects >1MB. In general (and even with Memabase buckets) we recommend using objects as small as possible because you get much more benefit from the very quick lookup speeds that Membase/memcached provide as opposed to spending more time actually transferring large amounts of data over the network.
