Just tried installing membase server 1.7.1.1 on a fresh Windows Server 2008 (standard) and after installing the vc_2005 redistributable files, I am seeing this error:

MembaseServer: Erlang machine stopped instantly (distribution name conflict?). The service is not restarted, ignoring OnFail option.

Any idea how I can resolve it?

Thanks

This fixed it for me:

service_stop.bat

service_unregister.bat

service_register.bat ns_1@*IPADDRESS OR HOSTNAME*

service_start.bat

Yes, there are occasionally issues with systems where the IP address changes. We've also seen issues when VPN software is installed (whether or not it is running).

Glad the workaround worked for you.
