Can ad hoc documents be accessed from within a map function?

I'm wondering if a map function has any way to look up ad hoc document contents.

Hello,

So the map function has access to the document currently indexed (doc default variable),
but you cannot go to another document from your map function.

Can you describe your specific use case?
