Memcached 1.4.5 can't run as windows service?
I noticed that the 1.4.5 build of Memcached can no longer be setup to run as a windows service.

How are we supposed to run memchaced 1.4.5 without the -d flag?
Or do you have 1.4.4 still available that we can run instead?
Thanks!
Paul
Paul, this is being tracked by issue 149 (http://code.google.com/p/memcached/issues/detail?id=149).
I'll see about getting the 1.4.4 build available again, but a possible workaround for now seems to be to use SrvAny from the Microsoft resource kit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137890

As another note Paul, I'd strongly urge you to download the NorthScale Memcached Server (http://www.northscale.com/products/overview.html) which you can use for free and is completely compatible with what you're doing today. It also provides enhanced monitoring and management capabilities.
Let me know if you'd like more information or if there's anything I can do to help with that.

I'd love to see build 1.4.4 come back up. To me that makes the most sense for what I'm doing. Basically we are trying to move from 1.2 to 1.4 to fix some issues we had with out of memory errors.
Thanks for pointing it out as a bigger issue than just northscale's issue.
Paul, any reason you don't want to use our server?
I can run any open source licensed stuff on my servers as I want... but as soon as I want to run anything even slightly proprietary I have a nice long review process to go through. :) I barely managed to get a windows port of memcached running. :)
Is your software released under an open source license?
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you Paul.
It's a slightly nuanced answer...our software is technically open source, except we haven't actually released it yet. I know, that sounds like it's not really open-source. The problem has been trying to merge our changes/enhancements with the existing memcached open source project.
That's where we stand with the 1.0.3 version of our product. The 1.6 version (which is in beta now, to be GA towards the end of September) is being released as the open-source project membase.org and will include the memcached functionality as well.
I'd encourage you to seriously take a look at what we have to offer...it's all free, but like I said, just not technically open-sourced yet.

Paul, I'm looking into this right now and will let you know as soon as I can.
