Cluster of machines on diff subnets
I got very excited when i heard about north scale's memcached distribution and downloaded the server and documentation to read right away. However, as i went through the server admin docs, it's mentioned that nodes in a cluster have to be on the same subnet.
Is that true? And why? Many hosting companies doesn't provide a private network for their custommers, and servers usually are on very different subnets (i.e a have a server at 188.8.131.52 and other at 184.108.40.206), even though the latency between them is very low (in my case, < 0.3ms).
Another question: what's the performance penalty (in %) introduced by using the proxy instead of communicating directly with memcache servers?
Thanks in advance.
