Why 3 node cluster for Automatic Failover ?

Hi All,

I am a Newbee to Couchbase.
I noticed that in order to have an Automatic Failover, i should have a 3 node cluster.
It is written in all forums and in Couchbase whitepapers, but non are explaining why does It needs 3 nodes for automatic Failover to work.

Mixed Architecture/Same OS

We need to upgrade the nodes in our cluster from RHEL5 to RHEL6. My hope had been to do that by a rebalance/update procedure. So take 2 nodes out, upgrade them to rhel6, bring them back in, then the next 2, etc,etc. That means my cluster will at times include RHEL5 and RHEL6 nodes...

Couchbase 2.5.1 crash report
