Case Studies

Take a look at how our users are using Couchbase technologies.

We love our users and thank them for sharing the ways they are using Couchbase Server. Some of the case studies highlight how easy it is to work with our software, and some highlight how Couchbase has helped our users tackle their new application development needs. Either way we think that the case studies make for a good read.

AdAction Drives Ad Serving Performance with Couchbase Server

AdAction, a leader in the ad-serving business, tracks consumer behavior online and delivers the right advertisements to the right people at the right time. To achieve this, they store massive amounts of consumer data – for roughly 75 million consumers each month – and must be able to access it, analyze it, and serve up highly targeted online ads – all in real time. Finding their initial server-side solutions too unstable, slow and complex, AdAction deployed Couchbase Server. The solution enables AdAction to consistently exceed customer SLAs for performance and uptime, while reducing administrative overheads – particularly as the volume of business grows.

Couchbase is the Secret Ingredient for Scaling Needs at Allrecipes.com

Allrecipes — the world’s largest, fastest growing digital food brand — receives more than a half a billion visits annually from cooks who create, save and share food experiences through recipes, reviews, photos, blog posting and more.  In the fall of 2010, as their peak traffic season approached, Allrecipes knew it was time to look for a new solution for scaling data on their website.  They decided to use Couchbase Server to alleviate their scaling issues and they are pleased with the results. Since deploying Couchbase Server the number of requests-per-second that can be maintained has increased 10x and processing requirements on the web service have been significantly reduced.

Concur Scales Market-Leading SaaS Application with Couchbase Server

Concur is a leading provider of integrated travel and expense management solutions for companies of all sizes. Initially, Concur utilized a homegrown caching system that turned out to be expensive and complicated to scale. They wanted to replace it with an open source solution that could help laterally scale their application, and provide the resilience and redundancy they needed – with simplicity and efficiency. They also wanted the new solution to support their aggressive plans for using NoSQL technology extensively throughout their stack in the future.

Concur chose Couchbase Server for this project and with the first phase of the Membase project complete, initial tests show a 20 percent increase in application performance thanks to Membase’s low latency and sub-millisecond response times.

Nami Media Uses Couchbase Server to Grow their Business

As a service provider to online marketing companies, Nami Media handles an extremely high volume of web traffic, which they initially supported using memcached alongside a MySQL relational database. However, the Nami Media team wanted two key things that memcached simply doesn’t offer: fault tolerance and data persistence.  To solve their issues Nami Media selected Couchbase Server, which provides them with fault tolerance, data security and high availability that they were previously lacking.

TheLadders Scales With Couchbase

Serving a high-traffic website like TheLadders requires an effective use of caching. Initially, TheLadders implemented heavy local caching on web nodes, which sacrificed large amounts of memory to duplication across nodes.  As their number of web nodes grew, they needed to find a more scalable solution.

TheLadders chose Couchbase Server for their solution and with the memory cost savings TheLadders is now caching more data than ever.  They are now storing over 3 million domain objects in a 3-node cluster with 100G of memory, and achieving a 97% cache hit ratio over hundreds of operations per second.
